A Spooktacular Entryway!

Decorating for Halloween is one of my favorite things of the year! I love to decorate for my little ones, so I make it whimsical, magical and family friendly! I prefer spooktacular instead of scary so I don’t decorate with skeletons, but adorn my home with cute bats, spooky spiders, and lots of orange and black pumpkins. Check out more details below!

Halloween decor can be as simple or as intricate as you want. I’ve had these old wrought iron candle holders for years! The spider webbing and plastic spiders you can find at Dollar stores. Another great way to create a spooktacular Halloween on a budget and last minute, is with candles! I bought these darling battery operated spider candles, but you could use any candles. I would suggest battery operated candles because they are safer, especially with little ones around.

YOU can mix in real and faux pumpkins and sprinkle them around your home. If you want to go with a more elegant look- I love my Mackenzie-Childs pumpkins.

But any decorating direction you go, Halloween can be a fun and festive holiday for family and friends to enjoy!

It's a "Spooktackular" Halloween!

When I found out I was going to have family flying into town for Halloween, I was so excited to decorate for this holiday! Every year I’ve always just decorated my living room for Halloween, but this year I wanted to branch out and do a “spooktackular” Halloween tablescape! And I must say, I think it’s my most favorite tablescape ever!

With it being halloween, I chose a black and white color scheme, and then added pops of orange. The first thing I did was pull out this black and white striped table runner from my decorating closet and put it on my table.

Then I was on the hunt to find some fun Halloween decor. When I saw this Mackenzie-Childs witch’s hat - I was obsessed! I knew that it had to be the center of the tablescape. After placing it on the table, I wanted the hat to stand up a little taller, so I put the hat on a white tray and then raised it a couple more inches by putting it on a couple wood boards. Then I covered the boards with fabric and fake leaves. Next I added patterned and solid colored pumpkins on either sides of the hat. (The Mackenzie-Childs Courtly Check gets me every time! I just love the black and white whimsical pattern.)

These glasses are from the Dollar store! Can you believe it? I only needed eight for this table setting, so I bought each glass at a dollar a piece. That was cheaper than buying 2- 6pk glasses at Walmart or Target - I checked!

Tip: When putting together a place setting, think of it as a pyramid. Start with the largest piece on bottom and layer until the smallest piece is on top. I usually start with a placemat, then a charger, dinner plate, salad plate and napkin and napkin holder to finish it off. 😊

A Spooktacular Halloween!

Happy Halloween! This was by far my favorite decorated Halloween! It was so fun styling new Halloween decorations and mixing it with some existing decor. The skeleton was a new addition this year too!

Do you see that wood witch by the fireplace? My Mother painted that years ago! She designed, cut out of wood, and hand painted every detail! She made four of them - one to give to each of her daughter as a Christmas present. She’s super talented!

Kay-Lynn's Wonderland Birthday Party!

Welcome to Kay-Lynn's Wonderland!

My daughter came to me a few months ago and said she wanted an Alice in Wonderland Birthday Party! I was excited to plan such a whimsical event, and felt this party would stretch me creatively-it did!

Kay-Lynn didn't want a tea-party, but rather a Queen of Hearts look- with a vintage feel.
We were on a tight budget so a lot of the table decor came from my party storage closet!! (Including, the chess piece, the picture frame, the green rabbits, the clock, the topiaries... I even pulled the tea cups from my own dishes!) I did buy few things like the paper balls that hung from the ceiling and the cupcake wrappers. My husband even built and painted the "The Which Way"
sign with left over pallet wood in our garage!

The fourteen girls loved the decor and had a blast making edible tea cups and playing games.
It was a wonderful night had by all!

A huge thank you to my friend Jamie Wing for making the most beautiful cookies! The girl raved about them all night long!

My daughter found these small, 3/4 inch vials on Amazon.com, and we they filled them with strawberry soda. The girls thought they were the coolest thing in the world!

My husband and I also designed all the custom printables for all the signs. It's a huge blessing having a husband who's a graphic designer by trade.

Below are pictures of the goody bags, the card banner I made that hung on the fire place, and some more table decor.

Because it was a slumber party, for breakfast I turned the table around and took off some of the decor from the prior night. Then I set a place setting for each one of the girls. I put two different kinds of cereal in glass containers, and added extra touches with the ribbon and decorative sign.

Because my daughter wanted to be Alice, and have a Alice in Wonderland party, I thought, "Why not the whole family be Alice in Wonderland characters for Halloween?" So that's exactly what we did :)

A Spooky Halloween Mantle

Fall is such a spectacular time to decorate any space! It's so wonderful to decorate for Halloween, next Thanksgiving, and then Christmas! My Husband I had so much fun decorating our fire place mantle- and I couldn't wait to share! Read below for all the spooky details!

Design Tip: When you decorate for a holidays you don't have to go out and buy a ton of decorations! First, look around your home for things you already have that could work. Incorporate your everyday décor and mix it with holiday décor.

For example, the large trunk and mirror in the back ground are my normal mantle décor. We just added the spider webs to them to make them look a little creepy. The candle sticks in the picture, I've had for years. They used to be black, but I spray painted them white for a fresher look. Now they're perfect for holding up a crawling spider.

I found this darling banner and festive spider web frame at Michael's craft store. The banner came as part of a kit- complete with water bottle and cupcake wrappers- as well as other party décor!  I used two water bottle wrappers, layer on top of each other, to wrap around my glass jug.
