Today we’d like to introduce you to Nissa-Lynn Parson.

Nissa-Lynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve had a passion for interior decorating since I was a little girl. I discovered at an early age that your surroundings really affect your life in areas of productivity, disposition, and your confidence. I also knew from early on that I loved helping people create beautiful spaces. My Mother always had our home decorated so well – even on a tight budget. She taught me no matter what you can make any space look beautiful!

I have always been a super creative person. When I was four years old I would spend hours in the middle of the night drawing at my drawing table. When I was around seven, I would spend hours playing Barbie dolls. But it wasn’t the dolls that enthralled me, it was the furniture and tiny home accessories. I loved arranging all the furniture in my doll house and would set up little vignettes. I would then take my pink 35mm film camera and take photos of the scenes I had created. I loved creating visual displays!

In college, I majored in Marketing Communications and minored in Visual and Fine Art at Brigham Young University. I did my senior internship with the JCPenney merchandising and visual display department and really enjoyed it! When my husband and I moved to Dallas, I used my painting skills and started freelancing painting murals for homes and local businesses. I also started doing interior decorating as well. Painting murals takes long hours, and while I enjoyed it, it took away too much time from being with my children. So, I packed up my paint brushes to just focus on home decor. I started my own business, and with my name being different, I wanted to incorporate it. Thus, Nissa-Lynn Interiors was born! I worked hard to promote my business through social media, referrals, and local advertising. Little by little my business grew and I was blessed with more clients and opportunities! My Instagram account also took off and companies started reaching out to me to do sponsored collaborations – so now, I do brand influencing as well and I love it! I style, showcase and photograph products and feature them on my social media platforms. My photos have been featured on social media sites and websites such as Better Homes and Gardens and ZGallerie, just to name a few.

The best part about interior decorating is seeing the client’s happiness over the changes made to their space – because you need to love the space you’re in!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe anytime you’re trying something new, there are going to be bumps in the road. Starting my business from the ground up has not been a smooth journey, but definitely a wonderful learning experience. I am grateful for all the amazing growth and knowledge I’ve experienced along this journey. There have been times when I questioned “Why am I doing this?”, “Is it worth all the time it’s taking?” or “Will this work out in the end? The main advice I would offer others is to always keep going. Sure there will be days where you want to stop, but if you’re passionate about something, keep going! You can do it! Our family motto is, “You can do hard things!” I believe those words with my all of heart. If you need to scale back a bit, do it, but never quit entirely if you truly love what you are doing. For younger women, I say; be patient with yourselves, realize it takes baby steps and time to reach your goals. As you go along your personal journey, periodically look back on what you’ve accomplished and be proud of yourself. When you’re struggling, draw strength from acknowledging your past accomplishments. Dream big! Believe in yourself and your talent! Remember, YOU can do hard things!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Nissa-Lynn Interiors – what should we know?
I started my company based on the idea that everyone can have a beautiful home or business on any budget. Whether it’s a one-time consultation or an entire room makeover, my expertise lies in creating a new environment with the client’s tastes in mind and sticking to a budget. I have the knowledge of working with different decorating styles to customize each project by incorporating the colors and styles that the client is drawn to. I help people make changes they’ll be proud of.

I offer consultations for everything from choosing paint colors, to picking out furniture, placement of kitchen cabinets or selecting flooring. During the consultation, I direct clients where to shop for beautiful, original decor finds to get the best prices at discount stores. By having the client go out and purchase the products, it saves money by not having to pay more for my time and for product markup.

I have also expanded into doing E-Design. This is a great way for interior decorating advice for people who want to do update their surroundings without a face to face consultation. This makes it great for clients across the country. The client sends me photos of their home or business and I send them back a style board with images of the items and changes I am suggesting. I also send them a detailed write up with all the links to products I suggest purchasing, and how to arrange them in their home or office. My clients have been in some of the largest cities in the country. Including: Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, and St. Louis.

Besides Interior Decorating, Brand Influencing and E-design, I also do home staging for realtors and people preparing to get their homes’ market ready. As a mother of five children, owning my own business has been a blessing because it allows me to work around my children’s schedules and do most of my work at home. I absolutely love what I do!

Which women have inspired you in your life?
There have been different women that have been a mentor or support to me in different seasons of my life. In fact, I have been blessed to know so many amazing women I wouldn’t be able to list them all! With that said, two stand out vividly in my mind. My mother and late maternal grandmother have been my greatest cheerleaders to pursuing my life’s goals. I especially admire my late grandma, how she raised four children, excelled in her career as an opera singer, and took a genuine interest in others and made them feel special. I hope I can emulate her example and make her proud!

Feeling the Love for Valentine’s Day

Hello friends! It’s bit a little while since I blogged but I’m back! I took a little time off after the holidays, but now I can’t wait to share some Valentine’s Day inspiration with you!

The heart sign, tag, pillow and wood tray came from Krumpet’s Home Decor. The roses are from Hobby Lobby.

The heart sign, tag, pillow and wood tray came from Krumpet’s Home Decor. The roses are from Hobby Lobby.

Let’s talk about the white ceramic pitcher holding the faux roses. This pitcher is from Home Goods, and it’s a staple in my home. I use it everywhere; on the kitchen counter, on my bedroom night stand, to hold fresh florals etc. I would recommend buying a few non-expensive pieces of white dish ware. White plates, platters, and serving bowls all photograph better than any other color dish ware. Have you ever noticed on the cooking shows they almost always display their final culinary product on white dish? That’s because of the contrast of the white dish against the colors in the food - it appeals to the eye!

I’m really into buying festive decor pieces that can be used for several different holidays . For example, the blush buffalo check pillow paired with the pink heart pillow, also doubles as part of my Easter decor. The red and white polka dot pillow is often used for decorating three different holidays: Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and Fourth of July. The same thing happens with the red and white bead garland seen in the tray on the coffee table.

Step By Step for Decorating a Christmas Tablescape

You can find the video tutorial footage in my Highlights on my Instagram page.

I’ve come up with easy steps to decorating a Christmas tablescape.

IMG_0088.JPG
  1. Start with table runners. I have an 84 inch long table so a lot of table runners don’t go the entire length of my table, so I use three table runners. One down the middle and two on either end of the table running horizontal.

  2. Add a charger plate at every seat.

IMG_0096.JPG

3. Add the dinner plate.

4. Add the salad plate

5. Assemble the cloth napkins. I like to use a patterned napkin paired with a solid napkin and sparkling metallic napkin ring holder. The solid napkins I have here are from Target.

This gorgeous Boucle rug from Orian Rugs is the perfect rug for my riding room.

6. Place napkins in center on place setting.

7. Add silverware. Remember to ask yourself: Do you need a dessert or a soup spoon? Add all the silverware you need and place them in the proper places. (Salad and dinner forks on left, knife and spoon on right.)

8. Add glasses to the right side. Ask yourself what drinks you are having: Do you need wine glasses and water goblets?

9. Start adding the centerpiece. Place largest pieces first. I place chunky candles and accessories then fill the middle space with large pieces of greenery.

10. Keep building with smaller greenery stems to fill in the holes, then add taper candles. A trick my mom taught me was to put tin foil in the candlesticks to keep the taper candle from falling over.

New Kitchen Backsplash with Floor & Decor

This post is sponsored by Floor & Decor, but all opinions are my own.

It’s been six years since we moved into our home. When we were building I wanted to upgrade the kitchen backsplash tile, but did not like the builder’s choices and premiums. So we went with a standard option and planned on doing it after we moved in. Well, life happened and it wasn’t until now that we were ready to do it!

Floor & Decor was the first place that came to mind! I remember going there a few years back with my mom to help her pick out new tile for her kitchen. I remember she had such a positive experience, and to this day still loves her tile from Floor & Decor.

pitcherpost.jpg

So I went to the Floor & Decor Store in Plano, Texas, and met with the Pro Sales Manager Shelly. I had so many questions and needed lots of direction. Shelly was so wonderful and showed me around the store. I was grateful for her wealth of knowledge!

Shelly suggested we start by going to the Floor & Decor Inspiration Center. Every store has one located at the front of the store. It’s a showroom full of inspirational ideas to help one see how different materials will look together. Each Inspiration Center is staffed with knowledgeable design consultants. At the Plano store Shelly introduced me to Renee, one of the design consultants. Renee shared with me that there is a design consultant on hand seven days a week, and sometimes two or three available during busy days. Design services are free to all shoppers. And it’s very easy to make an appointment. One can call or request a free consultation online! Renee also let me know Floor & Decor offers financing programs - which is a wonderful option.

IMG_6777.jpg

As we were walking away from the Inspiration Center to the decorative tile section, Shelly also told me to always look at the signs and labels on each product because they tell you everything you need to know about the product. It tells you price, if it can be used indoors or outdoors and how it’s laid. Once we were in the decorative tile section, I was amazed at the different shapes, textures, and patterns. Floor & Decor has such a wide range of styles and so many top notch in-stock products to choose from! I was just in awe of the gorgeous tile available. They even had tiles with gold inlays that were waterjet cut!

After looking around, I was drawn to the grey marble mosaic tiles, particularly the Carrara White Brick Marble Mosaic 12x12 . I showed Shelly a photo on my phone of my kitchen, to see if she thought the Carrara White brick tile would work. She thought it was a wonderful choice for my kitchen backsplash. We both agreed it would fit well because of the beautiful mix of gray, white, and cream colors that come through with this natural stone. The mosaic would also compliment my existing gray speckled granite countertops and white cabinets. And as a added bonus, I was so pleased with the price! I had looked at other marble tiles online and at other stores, and Floor & Decor definitely had the best prices around! I picked up a sample to bring home with me, as I wanted to double check that it would work in my kitchen. Plus I needed to go home and measure to determine how much product I would need.

So many options of wood tile planks!

So many options of wood tile planks!

With my kitchen backsplash tile picked out, I was super excited and wanted to explore other parts of the store with Shelly. I was truly amazed by the selection and organization of the store! We looked at different types of flooring options such as wood tile planks, laminate, wood vinyl, engineered hardwood, solid wood, and Bamboo products. (Shelly said Bamboo is so trendy right now because it’s used a lot on TV home decorating shows!) I also learned Floor & Decor offers countertops as well, and they come in a variety of materials; quartz, marble, granite, and even butcher block. Seriously, Floor & Decor is a one stop shop for an entire remodel!

I also learned that Floor & Decor has a Pro Services Department. This department is dedicated to builders, realtors, investors, remodelers, owners of rental properties, or anyone that does remodeling for a living. I learned that if you have an order you need filled, the Floor & Decor team can pull your needed items and store it for you, free, up to fourteen days!

thumbnail-2.jpeg

After having a great time exploring the store, I went home with the 12x12 sample tile, to measure how many square feet my existing kitchen backsplash was. Once I saw that it was going to work perfect, I then called and scheduled an appointment with Renee - so she could help me pick out the other supplies I needed to get ready for installation. A few days later I went in and sat down with Renee and we discussed the tile lay out, supplies, and if I wanted to add any finishing edge pieces to my new backsplash. She suggested doing a pencil trim in marble to match the mosaic tile. She explained to me that a pencil trim is a thin piece of tile placed along the edges of your mosaic tiles. That sounded great to me and together we selected the Carrara White Marble Pencil ½ x 12 to go along with the Carrara White Brick Marble Mosaic 12x12 Mosaic tile I was using. She also helped me choose the grout color, which grout would work best for our space, and how many bags of grout we needed. She knew all the answers to my questions and I felt so confident in my choices. I was ready for the tile to be installed! Having an expert guide me through this process made all the difference! She took the guesswork out of selecting the products and quantities needs.

After my appointment with Renee, we took home all the boxes of tile and grout, and had the backsplash installed. We couldn't be happier! The tile backsplash looks perfect and changes the entire look of our kitchen! I had the best experience with Floor & Decor and would recommend them to anyone. It made this remodel project go so smoothly!

Bedding My Older Boys are Obsessed with!

This post is sponsored by Beddy’s, but all opinions are my own.

A few months ago my two younger children, ages seven and two, received Beddy’s for each of twin beds. Well, after seeing how easy it was for the littles to make their beds, and how soft and cozy the fabric was, my two older sons, ages fourteen and eleven, wanted Beddy’s too! (Seriously my fourteen year old was begging me to get a set for him! It was quite humorous.) Then once I placed the order to get the older boys a set for each of their beds, my fourteen year old kept asking me every day when they were coming!

IMG_0320.jpg

Now you’re probably wondering why these older boys wanted this bedding so badly!? Let me explain why we love Beddy’s so much, and why we are a Beddy’s family through and through! It has really has changed our lives!

My husband Justin designed and customer built the board of button style back wall. He did an amazing job!

First off, Beddy’s has zippers all the way down both sides and across the bottom, so it’s easy for kids to make their beds - all they have to do is zip them up! As a mom, I love it because my kids don’t complain about making their beds anymore, and there are no more sheets and blankets all over the floor. The sides are quilted all around so it looks like the bedding is always tucked in, without the hassle of doing it yourself like real sheets or quilts. Beddy’s also has elastic along the bottom edge so it doesn't come off like a lot of sheets sets do.

My Dad just retired from working in the NFL for the past twenty years. He was a scout for several teams, and has two Super Bowl rings and a Scout of the Year ring. The autographed footballs came from him.

My boys love the minky fabric (100% polyester), because it’s extremely soft. The outer quilt fabric is 100% cotton. That’s important to me because my boys get hot - especially during Texas summer nights. Cotton is more breathable than other fabrics - which helps keeps their body temperatures down during the night and I don’t have to spend a fortune keeping the AC way down. Win-Win!

My two smaller children have Game On Gray, a gray rugby stripe, which goes great in their Americana/car themed room. For the older boys I chose Game On, a blue rugby stripe, to go with their NFL football themed room. I like the blue stripes in the Game On because it’s a classic look that goes with anything. The blue really compliments my son’s existing NFL decor, rug and wood furniture.

You can see the inside of the Beddy’s bedding. The internal fabric is so plush.

The Beddy’s are so stylish and are perfect for all ages, as well different styled bedrooms. In my case Beddy’s was perfect for my younger two children and my for teens! I have to tell you, when I was shopping on the Beddy’s website, I was floored with all the wonderful patterns and styles they offer. They also have a fantastic selection of matching pillows and blankets to go with their bedding!

Appliance Shopping Stress Free with Nebraska Furniture Mart

Let’s be honest, when one of your household appliances starts to give out, you probably panic. I know I do! Because having to replace it is not a small cost. And then there’s the comparison shopping, hoping for the best deal, picking out the right brand, and delivery issues. After many years of buying appliances at various stores, I found the perfect solution - Nebraska Furniture Mart! #Sponsored

sidefrontpost.jpg
closersideview.jpg

I got my dishwasher and microwave from there, so when I was in the market for a new stove, I skipped the other retailer’s websites, and headed straight to NFM.com. Once at their site, I found it very easy to navigate. I started my search for ranges by filtering “slide in stainless steel range”, and based on my current kitchen measurements, I knew I could only fit a 30 inch wide range so I added that to the search criteria. Then I was able to compare brands, appliance options, and price. A list of ranges came up and I fell in love with this wonderful Frigidaire 30'' Slide-In Gas Range. I was able to order it right then and there from the comfort of my home. Although I must say, whenever I get the chance I love physically going to Nebraska's store and wandering aimlessly down the home decor isles. I love looking at all their visual displays.

After the range was ordered and I received a confirmation number and installation date. I couldn’t wait for that day to arrive! I didn’t worry about a thing and Nebraska Furniture Mart’s customer service department called two days prior to delivery just to confirm with me that everything was good to go.

IMG_5481.jpg

On the day of installation, I was like a kid on Christmas morning! The installers called ahead to let me know they would be at my home in about 45 minutes. I kept looking out the window for that big white and green truck. They came right when they said they would - right on time! How often does that actually happen? Once the truck pulled up to my driveway two Nebraska Furniture Mart employees jumped out, and let me tell you, these two guys were the nicest installers I’ve ever met! They were so positive and helpful and were great people people. Besides their attitude being so pleasant, they totally knew what they were doing. They disconnected the gas line and removed my old stove and then carefully took my new stainless steel slide in range off the truck and delicately unwrapped it. The men worked together to install it and hook up the new gas line. They also showed me information in the owner’s manual, and taught me all about the features of my new range. They cleaned up all the trash and made sure I was comfortable with everything before they left. Seriously, it was the best installation experience I’ve ever had! And they didn’t even mind posing for pictures!

IMG_5463.jpg
IMG_5474.jpg
IMG_5475 copy.jpg

The difference between my old and new oven is amazing! I specifically wanted a stainless steel range without a back for a sleek, modern design. My prior oven was all back and I felt it just got grease on it all the time, not to mention being a bit of an eye sore. The black was such a stark contrast against my white kitchen cabinets. I also feel this new range helps to “open up” the kitchen making the space appear a little larger.

The new oven came with a larger bottom drawer - something I’m in always need of because i have a lot of cookie sheet and cake pans.
